Hospice Calendar 2009

For the 2nd year running St. David’s and St. Kentigern’s Hospices have combined forces to hold a photography competition, with a view to producing a calendar to raise much needed funds. And for the 2nd year running the winning photograph and photographer have come from Anglesey.
This year the competition was won by Mark Little from Tynygongl with a stunning photograph of Aberfraw. Mark, who originally hails from London, settled on Anglesey 6 years ago, after retiring from his position as head of a school for physically disabled children.
  
‘It has been like coming home. I love it here.  And when I heard that I heard that I’d won the Hospice Photography Competition I was really pleased - it’s great to  feel  part of the hospice movement. I went to St. David’s Hospice in Llandudno to be presented with my prize (a £100 voucher from Cambrian Photography) and was very impressed by the place. I met representatives from both hospices’ and was able to chat about the work that they do. I’m really impressed by the fact that they provide such first class care free of charge, and yet only receive a fraction of their running costs from their respective health boards. It speaks volumes about their dedication, and also the generosity of the people of North West Wales who support them in all their fundraising efforts.’ said Mark

‘Finding a winner was no easy thing. Our panel of judges (George Green from Coast and Country Magazine;, Ceanne Harper, a well known local photographer; and a representative from Judges Postcards) had to sift through a wealth of fabulous images and come up with just twelve! Anyway…we are very pleased with the result. Last year the winning picture was all about drama, with a stunning photo of Penmon Lighthouse in a storm, and this year it’s all about tranquillity and anyone who loves North Wales would be proud to hang on their wall.’
