The Duck Catchers at the Hospice Duck Race which is held annually at the Conwy River Festival did fine job, netting £950 for Hospice Funds. The winning duck was scooped from the river by the Mayor of Conwy, and duck number 892 landed £50 for a lady on holiday from Hampshire.

Last Minute Reminders for the Dawn Walk

Calling all Dawn Walkers  - when you go to bed on Friday night, don’t forget to set your alarms so that you have plenty of time to get to Aberconwy School in good time for the 3.45am registration deadline on Saturday Morning! The registration desks will be up and running by 3.15am, so get there early and beat the queue. And remember, the walk goes ahead no matter what the weather, and given the changeable nature of the aforementioned, it would be wise to be prepared for all eventualities, so pack those waterproofs! Spare clothes and flasks of tea/coffee would also be good idea, because although we will be providing refreshments (no hot drinks) at the half way point, 9 miles is a long way if you are the peckish type. This is also a final plea to dog owners – if you are bringing your dog, and you’re welcome to do so, don’t forget your leads and doggie poop bags. Another thing …many of you will already have gathered in some of your sponsorship money, but please don’t bring it in with you. We will not be equipped to handle large sums of money and receipts on the morning. And for all those who are wondering how long the walk is likely to take, here is a rough estimation – we will probably be leaving the school around 4.30am (earlier if the light allows). A fast walker can complete the first lap in 1¾ hours, then there’s  the quick rest and bite to eat at the Hospice. Allow the same for the return. So it‘s feasible to be back at Aberconwy School by 8am/8.30am. Most of us however, will be approaching this in a much more leisurely fashion, so say… 9.30ish. 10am latest.
This walk is only open to those who have sent in their registration form & fee, so if you are too late for this year, look out for next year’s date.
