Fundraising - 24th December 200924/12/2009
Photo: The Charity Christmas Carol Service at Horeb Chapel, Rhiw Road, Colwyn Bay on Wednesday, 9th December raised a total of £1,180.60 for St. David’s Hospice and Ty Gobaith Children’s Hospice. A huge thanks to Phil Edwards and all involved.
Despite predictions of a dire year for fundraising, the community has been stalwart in continued its support St. David’s, and as the year draws to a close we have much to be thankful for. So we will step into the 2010 with optimism and a new programme, building on the success of past events and hopefully adding some new ideas into the mix.
In the meantime there are already a couple of events already scheduled for January. There is of course Derek Horton’s Shark Dive at the Blue Planet in Ellesmere Port. Derek hopes to raise at least £400 in sponsorship before lowering himself into a tank full of these toothsome creatures! And then there is Circus Starr, who will be arriving in Llandudno on Thursday 28th January to conjure up a bit a laughter and lots of smiles. The show is a mix of illusion, comedy, and magic, starring among others Andrew Van Buren, one of Britain’s most highly acclaimed masters of illusion. In short Circus Starr is an enchanting show recognised as a brand leader in genuine family entertainment. Since taking to the road 22 years ago Circus Starr has raised £2Million for local charities, and we at St. David’s are delighted to be one of the regular recipients.
Date: Thursday, 28th January Time: Two performances at 4.45pm and 7pm
Venue: The Assembly Rooms, Llandudno Town Hall Tickets: £10
Most of the tickets have already been sold but we hold a limited number here at the Hospice. For further information contact Beth or Marie on 01492 879058.
By popular request we are planning a Parachuting Day in 2010, with twelve guaranteed places on Saturday, 18th September for anyone who may be interested in taking part in a Sponsored Tandem Skydive to raise money for St. David’s. Participants will need to guarantee to raise a minimum amount of sponsorship and will be selected on a first come first served basis, so if you have always had a burning ambition to leap out of an aeroplane at 10,000 feet, please contact the fundraisers on 01492 879058. In addition to this special day event, Skyline, the facilitators of these charity skydives run a rolling programme throughout the year, so this opportunity is not confined exclusively to this date. This event and all skydives for this area take place at the airfield in Whitchurch.
We are still collecting old mobile phone plus stamps, foreign coins and old currency. This continues to bring in a steady income. Donations can be dropped of at the various Hospice Shops across the area or brought in to the Hospice in Abbey Road.
Many thanks to the Hosanna Christian Singers who collected £310.00 carol singing at the Colwyn Bay Shopping Centre.
Date for your diary: Motown Night with Dave Hansen, Sat 6th Feb at The Deganwy Castle Hotel, Deganwy.
