Fundraising - 3rd June 201003/06/2010

Loyal volunteers, who have been serving tea and coffee at the Magistrates Court for many years, have raised a huge total for St David’s Hospice. This year alone, their tireless work at the popular Llandudno Court Tea Bar, has raised £4,000 for the Hospice, making the grand total over six years, an outstanding £28,000. At a special cheque presentation, held at St David’s earlier this month, chairman Gladys Harrison said: “On behalf of all at St David’s, we are extremely grateful to the hard work and loyalty of each and every volunteer who has made this ongoing fundraiser, such a huge success.”
We are calling for brave souls willing to abseil from the top of the Marquess of Anglesey Column on Sunday, 4th July, in order to raise much needed funds for St David’s. There are a few things you may like to know before you decide to go ahead: The column is over 30m high, and access is gained via an internal staircase with 115 steps. Even if you have never abseiled before, but are in reasonable health (remember the 115 steps!) you can take part. The abseil is run by a properly qualified and experienced team from the Beacon Climbing Centre and everything is explained step by step. All equipment is regularly inspected and provided. If you are you still ‘up for it’ you won’t regret it. It’s a great opportunity to get a bird’s eye view of the Menai Straits and Snowdonia without having to climb back down all those step, and the adrenaline rush will put a spring in your step!

The registration forms for 3rd Dawn Walk which will take place in the very early hours of Sunday, 22nd August are rolling in fast. This nine mile, woman only sponsored walk is gaining popularity with every passing year, and has to date raised over £36,000 for Hospice funds. People tell us that this is their way of showing their support for the hospice movement and St David’s in particular! Many women also choose to walk in memory of someone they have lost, and the beauty of the Conwy Estuary and the shoreline in the early morning light needs to be seen to be believed.

We still have places on the St David’s Hospice UK 3 Peaks Challenge Team, Friday 3rd September – Sunday, 5th September. For those already signed up or who may be interested in learning more, there will be a training and information day on Sunday, July 11th from 9am until 4pm. Meeting at Idwal Cottage (Ogwen Valley), the group will climb Y Garn and descend down the Devil’s Kitchen into Cwm Idwal. This will give everyone a chance to meet other participants and the walk leader, talk about fundraising and have any questions answered. For those signed up, the walk is free of charge but for others there will be a charge of £25. The day will finish with a cup of tea and cake at the Pinnacles Café. For further details contact Beth on 01492 873665.
